Our Story

Our Story ✿

Welcome to our small part of the Blue Ridge Mountains

Hey Y’all Farm is what remains of the historical Pinner family farm whose history in Asheville dates back to the 1700s. We began rehabilitation of the land in 2014 with the idea of building a life in genuine accordance with our personal values of conservation, generosity, and gratitude.

For the first six years we solely focused on the health of our land and tending to our free food garden. One in four children in Buncombe County is food insecure, and food banks are often short of fresh, beautiful food to offer those in need. Our free food garden grows fresh farm to table food for anyone in need, and is our small way of living up to Asheville’s “good vibes” ethos.

In 2020 the need for community and connection became evident and Hey Y’all Farm quickly became a landing spot for people looking to connect. We now provide not just food, but activities and goods designed to bring people together to create sweet pockets of joy in the tradition of our mountain town.

Meet the crew

Hey Y’all Farm is a project supported by stewards Bill Edmonds and Jen “Woodsy” Woods. Their journey together began in 2001, working in whitewater tourism where the couple met as a kayak instructor and raft guide, respectively. Bill was also a student at Warren Wilson College, so Woodsy moved to Asheville to take an editor position at the Asheville Citizen-Times. After several years of building careers outside of the outdoor industry, an irrepressible voice kept calling them back to their roots. In 2014 they moved to Hey Y’all Farm and began their biggest adventure to date: to create an oasis for themselves and their loved ones where folks could restore and reignite their spirits. Woodsy runs the day-to-day operations and Bill manages the heavy lifting. When they aren’t working at Hey Y’all both enjoy climbing, kayaking, and everything else that mountain life has to offer.
